Chris Kyle’s father instructed him in the use of a gun and taught him how to hunt deer while Chris was growing up in Texas. After a number of years have passed, Kyle is now an experienced ranch hand and rodeo cowboy. One day, he decides to return home early, only to discover that his girlfriend is currently in bed with another man. After urging her to go, he was discussing the situation with his brother when he saw TV footage of the bombings that occurred at U.S. embassies in 1998. At that moment, he made the decision to join the Navy. After completing the necessary requirements, he joins the United States Navy SEALs and is trained as a sniper.

At a pub, Kyle meets Taya Studebaker, and the two end up getting married shortly after meeting. Following the attacks of September 11, he is shipped out to Iraq. His first victims were a woman and a boy who had attacked United States Marines on patrol with an RKG-3 anti-tank grenade that was manufactured in Russia. In the aftermath of the event, Kyle is visibly shaken up, but he goes on to earn the nickname “Legend” for his numerous kills. Kyle is tasked with tracking down the leader of al-Qaeda, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. During the course of his mission, he questions a family whose patriarch promises to guide the Navy SEALs to “The Butcher,” al-second-in-command. Zarqawi’s When The Butcher catches up with the father and his son, he kills both of them while Kyle is being held down by a sharpshooter. This causes the plot to fail. This shooter hails from Syria and competed in the Olympic Games, where he won a medal. His name is Mustafa. In the meantime, the rebels have placed a bounty on Kyle’s head.
