A man named Alderson meets a grisly end in a room in the shape of a cube during a scene before the credits roll. Quentin, Worth, Holloway, and Rennes are all in a hopeless situation until they meet in another chamber that is identical to the first. Nobody knows how or why they got here, and nobody knows how they got there. After exploring, Quentin now advises everyone that certain rooms carry hazards. Rennes, a criminal who has successfully evaded capture on seven separate occasions, thinks motion detectors activate the traps.

The first thing he does in every room is chuck one of his boots. Frequent earthquakes can be felt throughout the maze. Leaven discovers numbers etched onto the walls of the small corridors that connect the chambers. Rennes makes the mistake of going into a room that he believes to be secure, and he ultimately meets his end due to being doused in the face with acid. This suggests that various sensors are being used to set off each of the traps.
