In the 15th century, Vlad Dracula is the Prince of Wallachia and Transylvania. Transylvania is also part of his domain. As a young boy, he served as a royal ward in the palace of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. There, he received military instruction to become a member of the Sultan’s elite Janissary corps, where he rose through the ranks to become the corps’ most feared warrior. After slaying hundreds of people by impaling them on spears, he earned the nickname “Vlad the Impaler, Son of the Dragon.” However, he eventually became repulsed by his own actions and turned his back on his past.
Vlad and his soldiers find a helmet in a stream, and they immediately get concerned that an Ottoman scouting party is preparing the way for an assault. Vlad is currently reigning his territories in peace. Following the stream will bring you to Broken Tooth Mountain, which is home to a cave that is covered in shattered bones. They were ambushed by a humanoid creature within the cave that possessed superhuman levels of strength and speed, ultimately resulting in the deaths of Vlad’s entourage. Vlad narrowly escapes and returns to his castle, where he learns from a local monk that the creature is a vampire named Caligula who was a Roman during the days of the Empire and was fooled by a demon for personal achievement and immense powers, but as the price for this, he was stuck in the cave.
When the Ottoman army arrived at the castle, Vlad was in the middle of celebrating Easter with his family, which included his wife Mirena and son Îngeraş. Vlad offers them the standard tribute payment of silver coins, but the emissary requests an additional tribute of one thousand boys to be trained as Janissaries in addition to this payment. Vlad refuses. Mirena has faith that Vlad may persuade Sultan Mehmed II to have mercy on the rebels. Mehmed rejects Vlad’s offer to substitute himself for the boys and insists that Vlad’s kid also be included in the exchange.
