Newton “Newt” Scamander, a British wizard and so-called “magizoologist,” comes in New York City in 1926. He witnesses Mary Lou Barebone, the leader of the New Salem Philanthropic Society who is not magical (sometimes known as a “No-Maj” or a “Muggle”), preaching that witches and wizards are for real and can be deadly. Newt Scamander encounters No-Maj Jacob Kowalski, an aspiring baker, when he is searching for a Niffler that escaped from the case he keeps magical animals in.

Unbeknownst to either of them, they end up exchanging luggage. Newt is taken into custody by Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, a former Auror with the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), for violating a magical law. Newt is let go because the suitcase he has in his possession solely contains baked goods that were made by Jacob.
