In San Marino, California, George Banks runs the thriving sports shoe business known as Side Kicks, and the business has been quite successful. George describes the difficulties he had in connection with the wedding of his daughter. Annie, his daughter, who is now 22 years old and has recently graduated from college, returns from a trip to Europe and reveals that she is engaged to Bryan MacKenzie, despite the fact that the two of them had only known each other for a total of three months.

The unexpected blow causes George and Annie to get into a fierce disagreement during the happy reunion, but they are able to put their differences aside and makeup in time for Bryan to arrive and meet them. In spite of Bryan’s successful career and pleasant personality, George is quick to loathe him, whilst Nina, George’s wife, is open to the idea of Bryan becoming her son-in-law in the future.
