In the film Homunculus, the main character, Susumu Nakoshi, is a middle-aged guy who chooses to take part in a strange experiment, or more accurately, a strange medical procedure.

The film chronicles his life after he makes this decision. This man’s life is all over the place, as evidenced by the fact that he stays anywhere from five-star hotels to homeless shelters.

One day, a younger man approaches him and makes him an offer that is sketchy but alluring. If Susumu gives his consent to participate in an experiment in which the participant’s head will have a hole bored in it, he will be awarded a significant quantity of money as the experiment’s prize. The experiment is carried out successfully, but the results have significant repercussions for his life.
