Sandy and Trish Patterson, an efficient, by-the-books in-house accounts processor and his stay-at-home pregnant wife-carrying child number three, are having trouble making ends meet despite all their efforts, especially since Sandy’s boss, Harold Cornish, has not provided employee bonuses for three years. Sandy’s professional life looks to be improving as he receives a new position at New Concepts, which would boost his pay five-fold.

However, he realizes via a series of unpleasant situations concerning his credit rating that a lady in Winter Park, Florida has stolen his identity. He got a call from a fraud protection business, which offered a free service to prevent identity theft. In giving the caller his sensitive, personal information to join up for this free service, he unknowingly gave her all the information she needed to take his identity.

The Denver PD won’t assist Sandy with the crimes in Florida, and the identity theft causes issues for Sandy’s new employer and longstanding partner, Daniel Casey. This affects Sandy’s position and career with New Concepts. Sandy, armed with the fraudster’s picture, plans to bring her to Denver to confess to Daniel and unintentionally to the Denver PD, which would get Sandy his identity back and put her to punishment.

Sandy may have trouble attaining his aim because he underestimates “Diana,” a boisterous, friendless woman who has “bought” friendship via fraud, and he doesn’t know what other illegal operations she’s been engaged in, which may include people more dangerous than her.
