In order to discover her father, Jesse Huston (Sharon Stone) has hired Allan Quatermain (John Hurt) to search for the famous King Solomon’s Mines. A map believed to be authentic leads them into an unfamiliar nation with the help of his buddy, the enigmatic Umbopo. The German military expedition on the same quest has captured Professor Huston, and they are being led by Bockner (Herbert Lom), a bald-headed, knackwurst-eating Colonel, and Dogati (John Rhys-Davies), a ruthless Turkish slave trader and adventurer who has been a long-standing adversary of Quatermain.

In order to verify the authenticity of a second map, Huston has no choice but to use his wits. Professor Huston, who was rescued by Quatermain’s gang, has confirmed that the mines are genuine, and he begs Quatermain to stop Bockner and Dogati from locating them, which he does. A series of terrifying confrontations with Germans and local native tribes leads them eventually to the Kukuana tribe, where they are captured.

Gagoola, the tribe’s malevolent priestess, has Quatermain dangling upside down over a crocodile-infested pond. Gagoola’s soldiers are defeated in fight by Umbopo, who claims to be the exiled chief of the Kukuanas after beating them in combat and revealing his true identity.
