Henry Steele, a young man who excelled at basketball in high school and came from a sleepy hamlet in Colorado, was awarded a college scholarship to attend Western University in Los Angeles. Henry, who is gifted but has a propensity to improvise, must overcome the pressures of bullying from his team members and a confrontation with a single-minded coach who is determined to get Henry to play within a strict system. Henry must also overcome the pressures of being bullied by his teammates.

Henry has to work on his reading comprehension because he is falling behind in school. The lovely Janet Hays will serve as the senior student’s tutor for the freshman classmate who needs assistance getting through the semester. In the meantime, Henry is successful in warding off the romantic overtures of B.J. Rudolph, a lady who works in the athletic department of the university.
