The reading of the book “The Princess Bride,” which has been handed down through the generations of the family, is being done by an elderly gentleman to his sick and, therefore, currently bedridden adolescent grandson. The grandson is confident that he will not enjoy the story because it focuses on a romantic relationship; however, he would rather hear about something that has a lot of action and “no kissing,” but he allows his grandfather to continue telling the story because he does not want to make his grandfather upset.

The protagonist of the tale is a young woman named Buttercup, who used to work on a farm but was recently selected to become the princess bride of Prince Humperdinck of Florian. Buttercup, who is still grieving over the loss of her one and only true love, Westley, who passed away five years ago, does not love him. Westley was a hired hand on the farm, and his standard response to any request that she made of him was to say “as you wish.” Over time, she realized that this was his way of expressing his love for her.

However, Westley ran away to sea, where he met his end at the hands of the dread pirate Roberts. Buttercup is kidnapped by a group of bandits while she is out on a horse ride to clear her mind about the upcoming predicament of getting married. The bandits are led by Vizzini, who works on his wits, and his two associates, a giant named Fezzik, who works on his brawn, and a Spaniard named Inigo Montoya, who has trained himself his entire life to be an expert swordsman.

They are then being pursued by none other than the Dread Pirate Roberts himself. However, the Prince and his men, who are being led by Count Tyrone Rugen, are following all of them. Buttercup, who does not want to marry the Prince and may see other options as lesser evils, and what happens to these collectives is partly dependent on Buttercup and somewhat dependent on the different motivations of individuals who are a part of these groups. But the more important question is what the grandson will think of the story as it progresses and when it comes to a conclusion, particularly given the fact that he places equal importance on doing what is right and being fair.
