Rigby, Benson, Skips, the Hi-Five Ghost, Muscle Guy, and Pops are going to have to go up against a crazed man named Mr. Ross in the distant future. Mr. Ross has a plan to wipe out all of human history in order to destroy Earth. They discover that Mr. Ross’ weapon is being protected by a cyborg version of Mordecai, who is making an attempt to assassinate Rigby in retaliation for a wrongdoing he committed in the past.

When everyone on the crew perishes, Benson makes the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life so that Rigby can use time, which is a spacecraft with the ability to travel across time, to reach the past and put an end to the mayhem. This is accomplished by Rigby, but not before Mordecai kills him with a shot from a plasma shotgun. Rigby’s suggestion to buy breakfast burritos caused Mordecai and Rigby to be late for work in the present day, and they just managed to persuade Benson not to fire them for their tardiness.

When the times makes its crash landing in the park, future Rigby appears and explains to Mordecai, Rigby, and their co-workers that when Mordecai and Rigby were in high school, they created a time machine that backfired and created a “Time-nado,” a tornado with the ability to travel through space and time.

This tornado was later harnessed and weaponized by their former science teacher and volleyball coach, Mr. Ross, who was held responsible for the incident Before he passes away, future Rigby reveals that future Mordecai shot him, which surprises the group because they do not believe it is possible, and he tells Rigby that he must soon reveal a secret from his past in order to save the universe, even if it causes him to lose his friendship with Mordecai.

Rigby dies shortly after this revelation. When pressed for additional information, Mordecai reveals that the reason they developed the time machine was that Rigby was accepted to their ideal school, College University, while Mordecai was not.
