Stella, Auggie, and Chuck were three teens living in the town of Mill Valley, Pennsylvania, on October 31, 1968, when they pulled a prank on Tommy Milner, a bully. The three runs for cover in the vehicle driven by the teenage vagabond Ramón Morales as Tommy and his crew pursue them in revenge for what they did. They finish off Halloween by going to what is rumored to be a haunted old house that belonged to the prosperous Bellows family, who once owned the paper mill in the area.

Inside, they discover a book of terrifying tales penned by Sarah Bellows, the young daughter of the Bellows family.
