The movie begins with an animated scene in which a prince kisses a sleeping princess to wake her up; however, the princess is uninterested in his romantic advances and runs away from him. The scenario then turns to a live-action version of the beautician Joy Miller, who works as an instructor at a beauty school in New York City.

Because of an unfortunate accident, one of her students sets fire to the classroom by lighting hair spray on fire with a cigarette. She leads her class as well as some animals that were caged to safety, which causes the New York Post to publish a headline praising Joy as a hero for her actions.
