Shogi, a game that is played in Japan and is quite similar to chess, is one of the most popular board games in the country and is enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to senior citizens.

There are some players that possess the level of talent necessary to compete at a professional level. Ryuuou, which literally translates to “the dragon king,” is a prestigious title in the game of shogi that is only given to the player who has reached the highest level of play.

After taking first place in the grand championship, Yaichi Kuzuryuu has just established himself as the youngest Ryuuou. On the other hand, the shogi community is not happy about his triumph; in fact, some people have gone so far as to label him the worst Ryuuou in the annals of the game’s existence.

In addition to this, he fails to remember the deal he made with Ai Hinatsuru, a little girl whom he had promised to teach if he was successful. After she unexpectedly showed up at his house, he grudgingly agreed to keep his pledge and began training Ai to become his pupil.
