The Lycans are so close to wiping out the last vampire covens that it is almost unthinkable. Both kinds of creatures are looking for Selene. The vampires want vengeance for the death of Viktor, while the Lycans, commanded by Marius, want to use Selene to find Eve. Eve’s blood is necessary for creating an army of vampire-werewolf hybrids, therefore the Lycans are eager to get their hands on it.

Thomas is informed by Semira, a member of the council of the Eastern Coven, that she desires for Selene to be pardoned and to be given the responsibility of instructing the apprentice Death Dealers. She urges Thomas to argue Selene’s case in front of the entire council, and once the argument is successful, the council reluctantly decides to pardon Selene in exchange for her assistance. David is there to greet Selene as she arrives.

In order to frame Selene for the crime, Semira has her ally and lover, Varga, poison Selene and kill the other trainees. She then frames Selene for the crime. Now that Selene is in her control, Semira will begin the process of draining her blood in preparation for drinking it and stealing her power. Thomas and David make an attempt to rescue the hostages, but they are ambushed by Semira and Varga instead. David and Selene manage to get away, but Thomas winds up getting killed.

While being chased by Alexia, a vampire from the Eastern Coven that had been sent by Semira, the pair seeks safety at the Nordic Coven. Elder Vidar explains to everyone gathered at Var Dohr, the stronghold of the Nordic Coven, that David is the son of Grand Elder Amelia and is, therefore, the rightful heir to the Eastern Coven.
