Sakamichi Onoda is an upbeat otaku who is excited to finally make some new friends and has his sights set on joining the anime club at his new school.

Regrettably, the group has been dissolved, and he has taken it upon himself to resurrect it by recruiting other students who are interested in participating.

Onoda, who has not had much success, decides to ride his rusty, cumbersome city bicycle to Akihabara and back. This is part of a weekly ride of 90 kilometres that he has been completing since he was in the fourth grade.

At this point, he meets a fellow first-year student named Shunsuke Imaizumi. Shunsuke is a determined cyclist who is using the steep hill at the school for practise.

Imaizumi is taken aback by Onoda’s ability to ride his particular model of bicycle up the hill, so he dares him to a race and offers Onoda membership in the anime club as an incentive to win. And with that, the young man’s first adventure into the world of competitive bicycle racing in high school gets under way!
