It seems like a really good movie. It’s shot in a pretty beautiful way. That is one area in which Christian Stella excelled to a very high degree. Everything from the synth to the harder guitars in Ryan Winford’s score fits in well with the tone of the film despite the fact that both the ambiance and the plot are completely bonkers.
The tone is handled with harmony. The tone of the movie reminds me a lot of The Greasy Strangler, which is not surprising given that Michael St. Michael plays the role of an angry gangster named Fox in this movie. However, I am not really able to compare the film to anything else in terms of the story or the concepts that are presented in it. Although it does not typically venture as far into the comedic realm as Strangler does, the excessively exaggerated aspects and wacky characters did bring to mind that film.
The performances are difficult to pin down and criticize due to the fact that they can be odd at times, but for the most part, I had no issues with them. Amanda is played by Sabina Friedman-Seitz, who gives a strong portrayal as the major character. She conveys discomfort and unease at the different things that have such a profound impact on her while also displaying moments of stillness and terror. I think she did a nice job.
The remaining members of the group, including the socially inept Walter, played by Stan Madray, Talky, a man who wears a panda mask and is played by Jeremy Gardner, and St. Michael himself, are a mixed bag, ranging from slightly wooden to absolutely acceptable in their performances. The acting in this film didn’t particularly blow me away, but the story was interesting enough to hold my attention for the majority of its running time (nearly 90 minutes).
