Frank Walker, a little child, brings his unfinished prototype of a jet pack to the 1964 New York World’s Fair in the hopes of selling it. However, the jet pack is not successful and is not purchased. Athena, a little girl, approaches Frank and presents him with an orange lapel pin with a blue “T” stamped on it. She then instructs him to follow her into the attraction known as Walt Disney’s “It’s a Small World,” which is located in the Pepsi-Cola Pavilion at the Fair.

Frank complies with the request and stealthily boards the ride. After the pin is read by a laser, he has whisked away to Tomorrowland, a cityscape of the future. There, highly developed robots repair his jetpack, enabling him to fly and join the clandestine community.
