Robbery is Neil McCauley’s career, and he makes his home in Los Angeles. Bearer bonds worth $1.6 million were stolen from an armored car by him and his team, which consisted of Chris Shiherlis, Michael Chitto, Trejo, and a freshly hired man named Waingro. During the course of the heist, Waingro acts impulsively and kills a guard.

When McCauley attempted to draw out his concealed weapon, he was responsible for the death of a second security guard. In order to ensure that no witnesses are left behind, McCauley gives Cheritto the order to remove the final guard. Later on, McCauley launches an attack on Waingro, and the rest of the crew gets ready to execute him, but Waingro manages to flee. Lieutenant Vincent Hanna of the Los Angeles Police Department and his colleagues are conducting the investigation into the incident.

Hanna, a devoted lawman, and former Marine have a tense relationship with his third wife, Justine, and he finds it difficult to connect with his stepdaughter, Lauren, who suffers from mental instability. McCauley lives by a set of rules, the most important of which is “let nothing to be in your life that you cannot walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner.” He starts a romantic relationship with Eady, an artist who specializes in graphic design.
